Duke University School of Medicine has long been recognized as a leader in surgical education and training, with a history of building multi-talented and skilled physicians and researchers who bring their passion for quality care to the communities they serve.

In August 2023, faculty and residents in the Department of Surgery at Duke hosted a two-day symposium with national leaders in surgery, medical education, and the arts in order to explore developing a new curriculum that seeks to address character formation in surgical residency.

On Wednesday, November 2, 2022, the Duke General Surgery Residency Program welcomed Mike "Coach K" Krzyzewski to the residents' didactics conference as part of the conference's ethics and professionalism lecture series.
